Professor Jens Scherpe Appointed as Expert to the Council of Europe

Professor Jens Scherpe has been appointed as an independent expert to the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Access to Origins (CJ-OR). His expertise will contribute to shaping recommendations on access to information about biological origins — an issue of great legal and ethical importance.

We at Juridisk Institut, Aalborg Universitet, are proud to share that Professor Jens Scherpe has been appointed as an independent expert to the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Access to Origins (CJ-OR).

This European expert group works on important issues regarding access to information about biological origins – a field of great significance for both the legal and ethical aspects of family law.

I am honoured to have been appointed as one of the experts for this important project. Technological advances have created new possibilities for social, legal and biological parenthood to be vested in different persons. For donor-conceived children it is of great importance to know their origins, not only for social but also for medical reasons, yet the rules and practice on this differ greatly between jurisdictions. I look forward to working with the Member State representatives and the other two independent experts on developing a draft recommendation or other non-binding instrument that appropriately considers and balances the interests of the persons involved and the obligations of the States"

Vi på Juridisk Institut, Aalborg Universitet, er stolte af at dele, at professor Jens Scherpe er blevet udpeget som independent expert to the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Access to Origins (CJ-OR).

Den europæiske ekspertgruppe arbejder med vigtige spørgsmål om adgang til oplysninger om biologisk ophav – et område med stor betydning for både juridiske og etiske aspekter af familieret. 

Jeg er beæret over at være blevet udpeget som en af eksperterne i dette vigtige projekt. Teknologiske fremskridt har skabt nye muligheder for, at socialt, juridisk og biologisk forældreskab kan være fordelt på forskellige personer. For donorbørn er det af stor betydning at kende deres ophav – ikke kun af sociale, men også af medicinske grunde – men reglerne og praksis på dette område varierer markant mellem forskellige jurisdiktioner. Jeg ser frem til at samarbejde med medlemsstaternes repræsentanter og de to andre uafhængige eksperter om at udarbejde en anbefaling eller et andet ikke-bindende instrument, der på passende vis tager hensyn til og afvejer de involverede personers interesser og staters forpligtelser."
